Jesus to the people

...God's mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Just finished teaching on Colossians 2:1-7. Verse 3 (above) is so deep and wide. Jesus never ceases to stretch the limits of explanation. Here's me trying.

                                                                        Jesus to the People

To the physicist, biologist or chemist who relies on consistency in the cosmos to carry out his next experiment in a reproducible manner, it is Jesus in whom all things hold together. (Col 1:17)

To the psychologist or psychiatrist who seeks to understand a person’s mind or mental needs, Jesus is the one from whom all personhood was created and the one in whom broken personhood is made whole. (Col 1:20)

To the special forces operative who goes on a mission into enemy occupied land to destroy an oppressive regime and liberate captives, it is Jesus who disarmed the rulers and authorities and made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them at the cross. (Col 2:15)

To the rescue worker who spends hours digging through rubble after an earthquake, bravely serving their fellow man, Jesus Christ is the one in whose image and likeness they are made, which explains why they so desperately want to help save others, even putting their own lives at risk.

To the judge who sets free or punishes, judging justly to the best of their ability, Jesus is the original lawgiver who himself defines right and wrong, who has fulfilled the need for Justice at the cross and before whom all people will stand and be judged one day.

To the peacemaker who strives to reunite families, friends, races or nations, it is Jesus who makes peace by the blood of his cross. (Col 1:20)

To the philosopher who plumbs the depths of reason and ponders the purpose of the world, it is Jesus Christ for whom and by whom all things exist. (Col 1:16)

To the paramedic or police man sifting through dead bodies in Paris, Jesus is the God who did not shoot his enemies but who went to the cross to rescue them.

To the person suffering deeply, Jesus is the God who suffered, who is available in the midst of suffering and who one day will put an end to all suffering.

To the spiritual explorer, seeking satisfaction in a plethora of religious or drug induced experiences, true reality is found in Jesus. He is the end of their searching and the beginning of true adventure.

To the mountaineer who stands on top of the world, taking in huge views all around, marvelling at the beauty surrounding them, it is the glory of Jesus which fills the whole earth, and which they are experiencing a small taste of.

To the single person who wrestles with being alone in a society obsessed with sex and relationships Jesus lived the most full life possible yet never had sex, never went on a date and never married.

To the married couple who are struggling to make things work Jesus is the one for whom marriage exists and who leads to forgiveness and intimacy.

To the rebellious son or daughter who refuses to obey their parents and who asks “why should I do what you say?” Jesus is the son who wrestled with his father will, submitted perfectly to him and from whom all sonship or daughterhood proceeds.

To the abused son or daughter who has been mistreated, Jesus will one day bring about justice to the wrong doer, can help them forgive and can transform whole families.

To the domineering parent who expects too much, encourages too little, threatens, guilt trips and scares, Jesus reveals a Father who always loves, always protects, always nurtures, always encourages and is always there.

To the orphan who has been left alone Jesus welcomes them into a spiritual family with a Dad who cannot be removed, who will never leave them, and with an earthly family made up of many mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers.
