Review: GodStories

5 May 2017 -- Posted by : admin

At Christ Central Preston we’re always on the lookout for good books which are biblically faithful and accessible to a wide range of people. Books come and go, and what seems cutting edge for a year or two can slowly lose it’s sharpness and seem irrelevant with the passage of time.

This book comes highly recommended whatever your beliefs.

GodStories by Andrew Wilson though is unlikely to ever really grow old. This is because Wilson isn’t just plugging into the latest fad, idea or trend. Instead he’s drawing from the timely and timeless truth of God’s word, the Bible.

God Stories explains themes that run throughout the whole Bible in quick, easy to understand chapters. His writing style is straightforward and engaging, while still being prepared to present deep and weighty truths. This book comes highly recommended whatever your beliefs. Whatever your viewpoint, God Stories gives an insight into themes and ideas which many people have never heard about, even those who have grown up in church going contexts. And (one of the!) best bits is that each chapter is just a few pages long. Most people spend longer surfing their Facebook newsfeed than it takes to read a chapter.

This is not a systematic theology, which carefully unpacks particular theological topics and compares differing views, explaining what the Bible really teaches. Have a look at Grudem's Systematic Theology if that is what you are after. Instead, GodStories primarily draws from the school of Biblical Theology as it pulls out themes running through the whole Bible, leaving you amazed at the coherence of God's word and the beauty of his work.
